The quick answer

Copy spreadsheet cells or CSV text into the Markdown table generator. The first row becomes the header. Copy the output into a GitHub README or open it in the editor to inspect the rendered table.

What makes a valid table

A pipe table has a header row, a separator row, and zero or more body rows. Each row should have the same number of columns. The generator fills missing cells so rows stay aligned.

Commas and line breaks

CSV cells containing commas need double quotes. Two double quotes inside a quoted cell represent one literal quote. Spreadsheet pastes usually use tabs. The generator detects tabs automatically, escapes pipes, and represents multiline cell content with a line break marker. Rendering support for embedded HTML varies.

Accessibility comes first

Give every column a meaningful header. Avoid using tables only to position text on the page. For long explanations, a heading and a list are often easier to read on a small screen. Split very wide tables into smaller tables around distinct questions.
